CANNOT just RUN OUT ~

One of the proudest achievement we have with TOto;
TOto wouldn't just RUN Out once the main door is open!
He would definitely wait for BOTH of us to come out.
He wouldn't bulged, and only follow one of us, if he knows that BOTH of us will be going out with him. so if Daddeee has walked down and mammeee is still in the house, TOto will wait right outside the door.
TOto will loiter around the corridor until we give the OK command.
Then he will trotter down ...
And wait one level down for us ...
We used to hide away and he will have to come running up, so he will always look back for us.
Another level down, he will wait for the next command to continue.

Once Daddeee says 'STOP', he will usually sit and wait for us to give the next command.

Sometimes we will let him roam awhile, but sometimes we will hook him up.
TOto is already used to our unpredictability, so it doesn't matter to him whether he is unleashed or hooked up!

Maybe to some people this is 'NO BIG DEAL' but to me this IS A FREAKING BIG DEAL because I know of dogs whom just RAN out of the house and get knocked down OR dogs sneaking out and lost their way! SO when we had TOto, I told Daddeee this is something that is VERY IMPORTANT to me. We have to train TOto not to RUN out of the door at any chance he has!
After that TOto gets to enjoy a leisurely morning walk with Mammeee and Daddeee ~

TOto loves it when the both of us walks with him ...

Our Westie TOto @ 1 Yrs 3 Weeks Old

  • He doesn't chew around the house anymore. Yipeee for me, I can place my stuffs anywhere! But we won't know what will happen if he is left ALONE at home!
  • Usually when only Mommy and TOto at home, he doesn't disturb me as much. TOto will do his own stuffs and me mine! But when Daddy come home, it will become a whiny, attention seeking puppy! Especially on the weekend, TOto will be so whiny, even if I am in the kitchen cooking! TOto thinks, weekend is FAMILY, and I shouldn't even COOK!
  • He has barked to warn us that the door is unlock for at least 4x! So is it just co-incident? We really wonder how will TOto know that the door is unlocked?
  • TOto is so tuned to our scheduled, he sometimes sleep at 3am and wake up at 11am!! THAT IS LATE for a DOG.
  • When TOto wants to PLAY, he will bring a TOY and bang it on your thigh! When Hubs bend down on the floor, TOto will be very excited and goes to his basket and starts CHOOSING his toy to play with. AND TOto usually have a mind of his own, and he will select what he wants to play with you!
  • In the morning, TOto DEMAND for Morning greeting by whining in the bedroom! And he only wants MOI attention. You see his tail wagging like mad when I greet him in the morning! Hubs' jealous because it is hubs who bring TOto down for the morning walk!!!
TOto is rather 'grouchy' when we are doing his video so his actions are very mechanical. When he is very happy, all the tricks that he does will look so different and happy! Anyway, for the record this is TOto @ 1years old!

Toto and hubs love to ACT

It seems impossible but then we did it hahaha.
This is damn funny!
Hubs taught TOto how to 'STOP' at any point of time in play! So when doing anything, rough playing, chewing, chase ball etc. The command stop, means he cannot move!!

And we taught of this and join with 'bang' to come up with this shot!!
CONFIRM to make you laugh out loud!!

Useful tips that we learn

One of the useful tip that I learn ....
When u tell your dog NOT to chew at your things, make sure you exchange for something that HE CAN chew.

When he stop chewing at your command, PRAISE him!

We use this tip and it work very well. Now Toto knows what is HIS and what is NOT his. So it doesn't matter where we keep our slipper or where I place my GUCCI bag. It is not his, he won't tamper with it. But be careful, once he start to chew on a particular things, and NOT STOP in time. It is hard to break that habit.

And NOW he knows where to look for his toy. And he has a mind of his own, sometimes, he wants a particular toy. He will wait till we find it and pass it to him. If not ALL of us have to start finding his MONKEY!

And as for now we trust him to roam around freely in the morning when we still want ONE or 2 hr sleep! But dog being dog, they still cannot be trusted 100%, hahaha. You never know when they BITE you back in your butt!

He Pass 'The Test'!

YQ wanted to crate him, but I got no heart to do it.
We left him in the Pen, and we came home to a escaped westie, as usual ...

But he PEE in his Nugi before he escape which was in the PEN. And we suspect that he HAS no way to go back in the PEN thus he went to the 'USUAL' potty area to Poop. Luckily that area is matted ...

But we are still proud of him because he didn't disturb all our other stuffs, other then HIS TOY crate! Hahahaha, we guess after he escaped out of the PEN, he didn't have any toy to play with, that is why he pull on the Toy crate to get toys to pass his time!

We checked; he didn't jump on the sofa, didn't STEAL our biscuit which is on the coffee table, didn't bite on any of our furniture or wirings!!

MOST IMPORTANTLY, he didn't pee or Poop on the carpet!!

HOW not to love him!?

Training progress @ 13 weeks!

Toto is having his DIVA day! He seems tired, moody and disinterested  and VERY DISTRACTED! So there is alot more I want to show but cannot. He doesn't want to do much. Nevermind, will show it all next week! But this week, he supposedly learn the hand sign of Sit and Down, YQ is very proud of it, hahaha ...

Revision with this week new stunt; Beg and Bow ...
We will be getting the 101 Dog tricks more soon!
We are OUT OF IDEA what to teach him, hahaha!
Most of the tricks are search from ONLINE, so hopefully with a new book, he has more to show ...

@13 Weeks ...

His schedule is getting easier for us.
He now can hold his pee and poop better and is pooping at very regular interval; once in the morning, before dinner and once before he sleep at about 9pm!

He can sort of Pee on command, he is unusually distracted when he needs to pee so when we see that and ask him to go peepee, usually he will do so. There are times when he go himself, but sometimes when he start sniffing about at other area, we'll get paranoid and quickly ask him go peepee on his Nugi pad, hahaha! AND sometime, when we command him to pee, he will pee abit just to make us happy!!

And sometimes, he is SO CLEVER, when he get scolding for peeing at the wrong place, he will POOP at the right place to UNDO the first scolding!!! We are really OUT-WITTED by him!

But we realise as long as the weather is good, he will be VERY relax and happy the whole day; if the weather get too warm, he gets very grouchy and get easily irritated!! Even pee and pooped EVERYWHERE, doesn't even care when he get scolding, hmmmmffffppphh!

SO WEATHER plays a important factor on his potty training, and even his 'TRAINING'. When the weather is cold and cooling, he trains better and is more willing to do his trick well!

This pile of 'GOLD' here is momentous for us, because we are trying to shift his Nugi out of his comfort zone to test whether he will use it outside, and he did it ON HIS OWN, without us nudging him!!
I only play tug and war with him if he uses Moo moo ~
He always like to 'emo' in the Patio, but I LOVE it because that will be his OWN PRIVATE TIME!!
And I will have time to update my blog, hahaha!!!
What is really ON HIS MIND?
Is he happy living with us!?

Training progress @ 12 weeks!

We are getting lazy and training him less and less, but partly also because we want him to have time to eat alone. We realised that he don't have that habit and when he eat alone he usually is very distracted. So now we trained him less and let him learn to eat alone in peace. Seriously, he preferred us training him!

And like a small kid, if he is not often praised, he will get bored. Or if he took too long to get the trick right, he get angry and walk away! So the KEY, is lots and lots of praise! If he cannot get a particular trick right, change to a simple trick and gives lots of praises and do the new trick again! They need lots of praises, loves and petpet to have confidence!

More to come next week ...
P/S: We know his 'action' are not as sharp, please note we did not recieved any proper training before, and this is the first time we try our hand on training a dog! And we are already very happy with what he can do as a 12 week old puppy ...

Training progress @ 11 weeks!

This week we actually manage to improve his 'STAND' and he has also backup his leg to give a proper stand. Hopefully we can improve that til his TAIL will stand up straight to give a COMPEITITION Terrier Stand! And Hubby has manage to train the 'Waiting' period longer. Toto has to 'WAIT'; to come out of his PEN, Crate, FOOD, Go out of the door, Come home and Approaching other dogs!

New tricks this week are :
Shake Hand
Hi 5
Check

More to come next, which he will be 12 WEEKS OLD!

Friday, April 23, 2010

He is 11 weeks Old, and learning QUICK!

This week he was taught

Hi 5, Look, and 'Proper Stand' plus 'Check' where we can turn him to his belly and Pause him!

(Sit, Down, Roll, Stand, Turn, Shake Hand, and Bang)

This week has his GOOD days and BAD days. Some days, he will be the perfect dog and DO ALL the right things and NOT miss a Pee or Pooped but some days he will CORK UP all our effort. And the odd thing is HE DOESN'T like to Pee or Pooped outdoor! We can bring him out on LONG walk but he still come back to Pee and Poop! He has Pooped outdoor before but it seems like he prefer to do it indoor! Weird!!!

We guess it might have something to do with the weather! On Warmer days, he don't seems to be able to sleep for long and he will be quite moody! AND he will be roaming and sniffing around aimlessly! And if he get too much 'SCOLDING' for doing the wrong thing, he will get moody again; me and YQ has to JOIN hand and play with him to cheer him up! HE IS THAT 'EMO'!

If he is fresh and gets enough sleep, he will perform better!
And all his emotion is written ON HIS EYES and his TAIL!

Toto with is current favourite SQUEEZE!
USD2.50 Turtle from Target!
His pile of TOYS!
We have to STOP getting him TOYS ya!
His kingdom!
We are training him to SIT on the floor of the Car and NOT on my lap!
Ultimately he start to enjoy it because of the AIRCON vent down at the leg area, and he falls asleep very easily during car rides!
He is introduced to the Patio (supervised of course), we don't want a FLYING westie! He loves it, he spends ALOT Of time there watching the world goes by ...
GROW UP please, and pee pee on the right place!

Update of his Training Progress @ 10 Weeks old!

He has manage to learn some basics.
But I still wanted him to go have some lesson in Petsmart because at least he get to socialise with other puppies and kinda of learn how to play safer. He is rather aggressive and show no fear with big dogs. He NO scare, I scare!

And so far he is scare of sudden loud noises and CHILDREN! Once, a group of children shouting "PUPPIEeEEeeeEssssS" and rush towards him, he is so scared he PEE on YQ! Hahahaha ...
I think he learn and get the idea rather fast but the fact is I trained with him 3x a day, everyday on every meal. VERY HARD NOT to learn right? The happiest time with him should be when HE SLEEP and when I train with him and he perfected all the moves very well!

Toto @ 9 wks Video!

His first video, usually his performance is better.
Hahaha too hungry today!
But this week, he learnt ; Sit, Down, Roll, Stand, and Turn!
He works for his FOOD!
No actions no food! Hubby think I very cruel, a few actions then only ONE kibble!
Hahahaha, we use his usual kibbles for training.

And now he slowly get the idea of Sit and Down, without kibbles!
